LDF: Pain and Objects

London Design Festival. The second talk we attended was entitled Aesthetics as A Means To Heal: Can we create an object that can heal a wounded society? A super long-winded title with a fractured presentation. I’m not sure that they answered their own question, and the term ‘object’ was very loosely defined – in one case, the object was music and in another, it was the internet – um, so not actual objects then? The best speaker was the MC, sojournposse’s Salina Christmas. And somewhere in there, we were pitched doctors via mobile and we sang Kumbaya.
Throughout the whole thing, I kept thinking of interactive designer Ralph Borland’s Suited for Subversion, one of the loveliest things
ever invented. More things like this, please.
